Domovoi - Domovoy / Slavic Mythology House Spirit

Domovi, painted for Librum Prodigiosum. Domovoi is a house spirit from Slavic mythology. It is believed that Domovoi is actually a spirit of the ancestor that first started living in the household. They are very small, bearded men, usually depicted with a lot of body hair, and they help around the household. They love it when a house is clean and they can get angry if household members swear. Sometimes, to appeal to Domovoi, people living in the household would leave cookies or an old boot for him.
